Perceived Value - Deep Thoughts

Posted in Deep Thoughts

Mission Camp is this week at Creekwood

He shall not judge by what his eyes see or decide by what his ears hear, but with righteousness, he shall judge for the poor and decide with equity for the oppressed of the earth; he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked. Righteousness shall be the belt around his waist and faithfulness the belt around his loins. The wolf shall live with the lamb; the leopard shall lie down with the kid; the calf and the lion will feed together, and a little child shall lead them.

Isaiah 11:3-6

In the Kingdom of God, everything is the exact opposite of how the world works. Wolves get along with lambs, cows have lunch with lions…and children lead us.

Sometimes we speak of the Kingdom of God as if it is an unattainable future state we will experience, which it is. However, just like many things with God and the Bible, the opposite is also true. The Kingdom of God is ALSO a present state, something that the harshness of the world cannot sanitize. Put simply: if you look for it, you will see it.

I have seen the Kingdom of God this week through our Mission Week for our elementary students.

I have heard these phrases said:

  • “I can’t wait to go on a mission trip when I’m in Middle School.”
  • “How can I listen closely to hear how God is speaking to me?”
  • “Helping other people is so important, Jesus did it!”
  • “Wait, can I start teaching Sunday school for my brother’s class? That would be so fun!”

Friends, the children are leading us. This week we are watching them think about others and how their lives, their gifts, and their talents can be used to show the love of God everywhere they go.

Later today our kids will decorate a piece of paper with drawings and phrases as they think about how they can serve as Jesus did with their whole life. These papers will be on display on Sunday. But I hope that today, we as the adults who love them might ponder the same question alongside them.

How can you serve, like Jesus, with your life?

What spiritual gifts or talents do you have that can help the church and the world?

What is a BIG dream that God might be laying on your heart for service?

As you ponder these questions, I invite you to fill out the survey I sent last week inquiring about your availability and interest in serving our youth and children’s ministries. Friends, this survey is not a hard commitment, but instead a way to gauge your interests and timing. It will help our team to make plans for our youth and kids that we know adults who will love on them can be present for. So far, I only have 13 people who have responded, and I would love to see that cross over 50 by the end of this week.

I invite you to stop, take a moment to breathe, and fill this out while the Spirit leads you.

Enjoy the pics below to give you a taste of the Kingdom of God we are seeing this week at Mission Camp and join us on Sunday to hear even more about this experience!

Blessings and big love,

Keri Lynn Lucas
