Advent Day 24

Posted in Deep Thoughts

We asked some people at Creekwood to answer one of two questions:
“What is your favorite Christmas carol,
and what does it tell you about God?”
or
“How do you hear God speaking in the world today?”
We hope you find hope, love, joy, and peace as you hear God speak through these daily devotional reflections.

In the midst of this joyous, holy season, I always find myself singing the words of many Christmas songs. One in particular, O Holy Night, is near and dear to my heart and has had such a meaningful presence for me since I was a young girl.

I fondly remember Christmas Eve service as a kid, with the clock nearing midnight, and the beautiful voice of our Pastor singing the words to O Holy Night. The sanctuary was lit by candle light with the congregation making a circle around and it truly was awe inspiring. Every year, I always looked forward to hearing the Pastor’s amazing voice and feeling the words of that song. Although, as a young girl, I didn’t necessarily know exactly the meaning of the lyrics, there was definitely a spark ignited in me when I heard it.

I’m reminded each year of the powerful words in this song and how God provides for us; the birth of our Savior and through Him our souls feel His worth and we are healed. A thrill of hope we are given each day and how we choose to use that hope, especially with our oftentimes weary world. Our lives may not be going as hoped or planned but we should rejoice and be thankful for the new beginnings and opportunities we are given. With our concerns, joys and hectic lives, may you find your days and nights as divine as the sweet baby born in the manger.

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining,

It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth;

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,’Till he appeared and the soul felt its worth.A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
