Amidst the Passover meal, Jesus begins preparing his disciples for his eventual crucifixion, which brings about obvious dismay. But part of Jesus’ speech, specifically John 14, aims to bring the disciples peace in the midst of the upcoming turbulence. More than navigating complexity, Jesus promises peace by helping them imagine a life over and above their current and future troubles. As we pledge ourselves to God once again, we’ll use some sweet candy metaphors to help us imagine the peaceful world Jesus tells us about, and how our commitment to the church can help us find it.
