Advent Devotional 12
Psalm 127:3 “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.”
“I’m a proud parent. I may have given my children the gift of life, but my children were the greatest gift I could have ever hoped for in my life. I love my children.” ~ by Dave Hedges
I’ve always wanted to be a mom. I wanted to drive a minivan, go to soccer games, and go on field trips. I wanted to read to them at night, and plan birthday parties. I wanted to go to Disney World, and order Happy Meals.
Kelly Grace and Brooks teach me to find joy in the little things. They could play in the bathtub for hours. They love to splash and play with bubbles. They teach me to live in the moment, and be curious. One loves to ask questions (starting at 5am), and the other is constantly trying to get into drawers and cabinets.
They teach me to have fun and laugh. They teach me to forgive freely. They teach me to live in the moment and use my imagination. They teach me to be honest and to believe. They teach me patience, and to be giving.
Our home has come alive (and is louder than ever) with these two kiddos running around. While there is little to no sleep, and bags under my eyes, I’m grateful to love and nurture these kiddos. They are my greatest gift. To quote the Oak Ridge Boys, “They are my special kind of sunshine in a smile, and the nearest thing to heaven.”
Thank God for Kids (The Oak Ridge Boys)
If it weren’t for kids have you ever thought
There wouldn’t be no Santa Claus
Or look what the stork just brought thank god for kids
And we’d all live in a quiet house without Big Bird or Mickey Mouse And cool-Aid on the couch thank god for kids
Thank god for kids there’s magic for a while
A special kind of sunshine in a smile
Do you ever stop to think or wonder why?
The nearest thing to heaven is a child
Daddy, how does this thing fly?
And a hundred other where’s and whys
You really don’t know but you try thank god for kids
When you look down in those trusting eyes that look to you, you realize There’s a love that you can’t buy thank god for kids
Thank god for kids there’s magic for a while
A special kind of sunshine in a smile
Do you ever stop to think or wonder why?
The nearest thing to heaven is a child
When you get down on your knees
Tonight to thank the Lord for His guiding light
And pray they turn out right thank god for kids mmm thank god for kids
