In conversation, a pregnant pause is a time of silence that builds anticipation for what is about to be saidIt builds excitement for the big news that is about to comeIt means that something is living underneath the silence, ready to explode and change usIn Luke we find two pregnant women, both linked with pausesJohn’s birth will allow Zechariah to speak again, as his disbelief in God’s capabilities overwhelmed his ability to say anythingJesus’ birth will bring about the salvation of the world and the establishment of a new order of things – God with us and for us – and us for each otherSome of us may be feeling a “pause” in our connection with God – but as we recognize Jesus coming into the world again, maybe we can have faith that something big is just around the corner?
