Do you save leftovers or discard them? Some avoid keeping extra food due to concerns about taste or spoilage, while others appreciate the convenience. But what if there’s a deeper lesson in how we handle leftovers? In Exodus, God instructs the Israelites not to save leftovers as a way to teach trust in His daily provision. Yet in John’s account of the feeding of the 5,000, the leftovers are so abundant that they gather more than they started with.
What’s the difference? In Exodus, the Israelites had abundance but needed the humility to recognize the source of that abundance. In John, they began with very little and found unexpected abundance, revealing God’s blessings in new ways.
This week, we’ll explore what these stories mean for our own lives. How do we view the “leftovers” in our world? Are we trusting God’s provision, and how can we recognize and steward the blessings He’s already given us?
