Lisa Witherington has volunteered to be the Children's choir director. She feels that God directed her to this church for this very thing!!
Here is a little about Lisa
I have a bachelors degree in vocal performance from UTA and was a church musician for over 20 years working with children, youth and adults. I worked for several UMC churches before getting my teacher certification in music ed. from TWU and have worked as a public school music teacher for the last 15 years at Minshew Elementary in McKinney. I married my husband Steve 3 years ago and between us we have five kids. He is a quality manager for a small electronics company. Our oldest child is married graduate of Texas A&M and is a mechanical engineer. My step-daughters twins are in college one at Texas Tech the other is going to Collin College and plans to attend Tech next year. My son graduated from McKinney Boyd High School in June and is studying to be an auto mechanic at Tyler Junior College and my youngest step-son is in 7th grade at Trivium Academy in Carrollton.
Lisa is also experienced with Chimes and even mentioned the children using recorders. She wants to use instruments and action songs as much as possible.
Lisa would like to break up the Choir eventually into 2 groups: Grades, K-1 and grades 2-4. She would work with one group while a helper worked with the other group with a planned activity she has given them, then they would rotate. We would like to move towards this model though for the first 2 Wednesdays will be altogether.
Some things to ponder
- Lisa will needs 1 helper I will make a sign up sheet once we see who will be coming to choir
- Lisa has suggested we have a dinner. I could organize a pizza dinner Chick- Fil-A or some type of dinner. I want to have the parents input: no dinner or have a dinner?
