Ongoing Missions at Creekwood

Mission: Creekwood UMC is passionate about building the Kingdom of God by serving families and children in need. We strive to develop long-term relationships with the people and organizations we partner with, both locally and globally.  Our goal is to make a high-impact, positive difference within the area and through the lives of all involved.  We focus on five core missions so that we can build relationships, make a deep impact and empower those in need.

Cornerstone Ranch

The mission of Cornerstone Ranch is to empower adults with special needs to live an abundant life. Their vision is to change the way people with disabilities are cared for in North Texas by presenting a replicable model that is professional in care, pure in service, and founded on faith. They are located on 42 acres in McKinney, just 4.4 miles from Creekwood. Cornerstone is home to seven adults with disabilities and their activity center hosts their day program for an additional 22 Ranchers.

Cornerstone Ranch provides services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in a family-centered environment. The Ranchers learn to be active members of the community by selling their organic produce at the local farmers' market, attending high school football games, enjoying meals at local restaurants, and attending church services in town. The Ranch is a safe place where independence thrives, character grows, and confidence is nurtured. God's love and acceptance, often an overlooked component of other programs is the centerpiece of their community.

Family Promise

Family Promise's mission is to provide food, shelter and support services to Collin County families with children as they regain sustainability.

Creekwood UMC hosts the families enrolled in the program four weeks out of the year and provides beds, meals and fellowship during their stay.  Volunteers are needed to provide meals, host meals, grocery shop, help set up and host overnight.  Volunteers are required to attend a one-time training.  Contact Lauralee Campbell, Barrie Heres, or Sue Jarvis for more information or to volunteer.

Habitat for Humanity

Creekwood UMC supports several build days where volunteers gather to support Habitat's belief that everyone, everywhere, should have a healthy, affordable place to call home.

More than building homes, we help build communities, build hope and build the opportunity for families to help themselves.   Volunteers must complete a one-time training session at a scheduled training event or online.  Children 14-18 years of age can volunteer with an adult and are also required to attend training.  Contact Christina Shepard for more information.

Harper's Helpers

Creekwood UMC, in partnership with Harper Elementary in Princeton, TX, has established Harper's Helpers, a program to train and match Creekwood members with students pre-K through 5th grade to be a classroom helper, assist the teacher with classroom tasks, provide tutoring in a small group setting, and be a positive role model for children in the class.. There are also opportunities for being a breakfast volunteer or lunchroom helper throughout the school year.

Creekwood also helps with needs such as school supplies, food and clothing for students.  In addition, we provide teacher appreciation lunches and an "apple tree of wishes" to help teachers with classroom supplies and learning tools.  There are lots of ways to get involved at Harper! Training for new volunteers is held in September.  Contact Jen Still for more information.

ZOE Helps

Creekwood UMC has engaged in a three-year partnership with five ZOE empowerment groups in India and two in Zimbabwe.  ZOE is a unique empowerment program designed to bring orphans and vulnerable children from extreme poverty to self-reliance.

ZOE empowers children to take charge of their journey out of poverty and to: know of God's love, become food secure, have access to education, vocational and business training, safe and secure housing, understand and enforce their rights, access to health and hygiene training and resources, start businesses, and help make their dreams come true.  Contact Samantha Poulton to learn more.
